Enlarged Prostate
What is Enlarged Prostate?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a condition affecting men that causes difficulty urinating due to the growth of the prostate. This condition is likely related to aging. More than half of men over age 50 and 90 percent of men over age 80 have BPH. It can cause a variety of symptoms, such as:
- Frequent and sudden urges to urinate, especially at night
- Weak urine stream or inability to empty bladder completely
- Difficulty starting urination
- Urine leakage
- Blood in urine
Patients with BPH are often prescribed prescription medication to reduce symptoms. However, medications do not always work effectively to bring relief.
